I agree. I've got a triple-interface LaCie (USB2, FW400, FW800) that I really like. The enclosure is aluminum and is well ventilated. I cleared off some space on a sweet OWC On The Go drive (USB2, FW800) and I'm using that for Time Machine. It's only 100GB, so I can't back up everything so I excluded my iTunes Library since I already have a good backup of it and an iPod and CDs. Time Machine is pretty sweet, the interface is cool.

I partitioned one of my external drives for time machine. It's a 250gb firewire drive and I have half partitioned for time machine and the other half for media. I for one would reccomend firewire. I have a usb2 and firewire and firewire is much quicker when I have to transfer large files.

Western Digital Passport I just got one of these. 250GB, bus-powered. But it's all being used for my work...not enough free space for Time Machine.

I like FireWire drives better, but I think USB2 is the the future. There are a lot of really nice USB2 drives cheap.

I have not yet really messed with Time Machine much. I also need to get another external drive. None of mine have the kind of free capacity I need for it.

Paul, have you used Time Machine yet? It looks like I will need to buy another external HD to use with Time Machine. Do you recommend a USB drive or a Firewire drive? Thanks!

Leopard

Leopard is coming out this Friday and it looks like it will add a bunch of really neat new features. There are several that I'm excited about such as making your own dashboard widgets by dragging a box in Safari, Time Machine sounds really interesting, To-Do lists will be added into Mail, and it looks like .mac is going to be more worth the money for a year's subscription. I won't be getting Leopard right away, however, because I'm slowly trying to save up for a new MacBook which I hope to get b… Continue
